Gun Fitter

The Role

As a Gun Fitter for large calibre weapons, you will be a vital member of our team, responsible for maintaining weapons systems and supporting large calibre trials at our MoD Shoeburyness site.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair large calibre weapon systems to ensure safe and serviceable conditions in preparation for trials.
• Ensure all weaponry and associated equipment are issued for trial and proof activities.
• Provide preventative, scheduled maintenance, and fault rectification services.
• Support stakeholder engagement for the Team Leader for Ordinance, Munitions, and Explosives (OME) Engineering.
• Conduct risk assessments across relevant equipment, rigs, and explosive articles.
• Develop professional and technical skills in pre-planned and reactive maintenance for trials support.
• Support materials used in human protection through test and evaluation trials.

Essential Experience:

• Proven experience working with large calibre ordnance and associated equipment.
• Demonstrable awareness of risk assessment and health & safety regulations associated with large calibre weapon systems.
• Previous experience working with large calibre gun systems.
• Demonstrable experience of maintenance, fault finding, and repair of various large calibre weapon systems and engineering workshop techniques.

Qualifications:

• A recognised military large calibre armament apprenticeship, armourer qualification, or equivalent experience as a large calibre engineer or armourer.
• Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• A full clean UK driving licence.
