Job Summary

The Project Leader (Production) will lead and complete projects assigned by the Production Manager, focusing on production and departmental excellence. Projects include purchasing, design, fabrication, and sourcing of safety features and equipment to eliminate hazards, improve 5S standardization, ergonomics, workflow, and OEE.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Define, plan, track, and manage projects, identifying required resources, creating reports for senior management, and completing project work in a timely manner.
  2. Coordinate with Machine Shop, Product Design, Mold Design, Technical Services, and other departments to achieve project objectives.
  3. Contact suppliers for pricing, specifications, features, and samples; compare results and present findings to management.
  4. Design or modify parts and equipment using CAD to build 3D models and 2D drawings.
  5. Liaise with vendors to acquire quotations for quality products and services.
  6. Conduct inspections on purchased equipment and structures, ensuring requirements are met.
  7. Coordinate the implementation and/or installation of new equipment into production.
  8. Design, modify, and produce new tooling as needed.
  9. Manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting target deadlines.
  10. Communicate with departmental supervisors for labor, asset additions, preventative maintenance requirements, and design.
  11. Consult with the Training Specialist and facilitate training of new equipment for personnel.
  12. Create written procedures and work instructions, as required.
  13. Consult with IPEX safety or third-party engineers to ensure all projects meet local safety codes.
  14. Conduct research on new methodologies for innovation.
  15. Schedule and conduct regular meetings to obtain information and communication for all involved.
  16. Continuously monitor project risk and mitigate as appropriate.
  17. Work with HSE to design and implement projects for hazard and ergonomic issue reduction.
  18. Influence process, procedure, layout, and equipment on the production floor.
  19. Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  1. Completion of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  2. Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
  3. Experience in a manufacturing environment, plastic, or injection molding is preferred.
  4. Proven experience developing project plans, identifying and managing resources, setting goals, and budget.
  5. Experience in 3D/2D model design using CAD/CAM software is required.
  6. Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, Solid Works, Inventor, and MS Office programs is required.
  7. Experience leading multi-functional teams is an asset.
  8. Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing quality standards, project management principles, and lean manufacturing methods and practices.
  9. Able to communicate clearly with all levels of the organization and external partners.
  10. Intermediate knowledge of machine shops and machining practices.
  11. Able to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
