Head Gardener

The National Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Gardener to lead the management and care of three exceptional gardens in Cornwall. As a key member of the Property Leadership Team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and long-term planning of the gardens, ensuring they are preserved and enhanced for future generations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead a team of 11 staff and over 50 garden volunteers to deliver high-quality garden operations and conservation projects
Manage and care for three distinct gardens, including Trelissick, Glendurgan, and Trerice
Develop and implement conservation management plans to retain and enhance the gardens' unique character
Work closely with the visitor experience team to engage visitors and promote the gardens' natural beauty and narratives
Collaborate with property teams to improve access to the gardens and enhance the visitor experience
Requirements
Significant practical horticultural experience and relevant qualifications (RHS level 3 or above)
Excellent knowledge of plants and plant care, with experience of managing diverse gardens throughout the seasons
Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience of managing and supporting teams
Ability to work with key management documents, including the Statement of Significance and Conservation Management Plan
Commitment to working as part of a wider team to build a culture of inclusion
