Job Description

Job Title: Care Assistant

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Care Assistant to join our team at Devon County Council. As a Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to our service users with varying levels of need and dependency.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Deliver care and support to service users in a sensitive and person-centred way, prioritizing their needs and preferences.
  • Contribute to the development and review of individual care plans, risk assessments, and other relevant documentation.
  • Administer prescribed medication under the supervision of the team leader and in accordance with CQC and Royal Pharmaceutical Standards.
  • Assist with service user admissions and discharges, ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Liaise with other agencies and professionals, including care management staff and residential unit staff, to ensure comprehensive care and support.
  • Contribute to maintaining the safety and security of the premises, staff, and service users, adhering to Health and Safety Act 1974.
  • Report any concerns or issues to the line manager, ensuring prompt action and resolution.
  • Participate in the mentoring of new staff, promoting a positive and supportive team culture.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings as necessary, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Assist with domestic tasks and minor catering duties, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Conform to and promote DCC Customer Service Standards, providing excellent service to internal and external customers.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a unified and flexible manner, prioritizing the needs of service users.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with service users, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Flexibility to work variable hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively.
