Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing technical procurement activities, leading supplier selection and development initiatives, and applying a comprehensive understanding of mechanical and electrical processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Procurement: Execute technical procurement activities in a project-based manufacturing environment, ensuring a balance between quality, delivery, and cost considerations.
  • Supplier Selection and Development: Lead supplier selection and development initiatives, evaluating potential suppliers based on criteria such as quality standards, delivery capabilities, and cost competitiveness.
  • Process Expertise: Apply a comprehensive understanding of mechanical and electrical processes to effectively engage with suppliers and assess technical requirements.
  • Supplier Management: Creation of new supplier accounts on company ERP system, maintenance of supplier database to ensure that all vendors are approved for use in line with the company's Supplier Approval Procedure.
  • Price and Delivery Management: Compilation and analysis of price & delivery requests to suppliers, monitoring of actual costs against costing documents to ensure that job budgets are complied with, and communication of any discrepancies to the Project Managers.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communication with all interested parties (Project Managers, Production Planning / Management) to update on supply status and to ensure that all materials are available in line with agreed manufacturing program.
  • Inventory Management: Review reorder levels and quantities of stocked components in line with current demand.
  • Continuous Improvement: Assist with company annual stocktake, identification of new vendors, supply methods and system improvements to assist the company's purchasing and stock control processes.
  • Project Participation: To be involved in any projects for cost reduction, product development or process improvement, as required.
  • Supply Chain Development: To contribute towards and assist in the implementation of new Supply Chain processes.
  • Contract Management: To tender, evaluate and award contract of supply agreements which achieve overall cost savings and efficiencies for the department.
  • Vendor Engagement: To identify and engage with potential new suppliers.
  • Price Benchmarking: Benchmarking vendor prices for regular purchased items to ensure the company is receiving best value.
  • Procurement Guides: Contribute towards the creation and ongoing maintenance of Procurement guides and procedures.
  • Management Support: To deputise as part of the management structure of the company if the Procurement Manager is unavailable.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Experience in a manufacturing based purchasing role.
  • Process Knowledge: A broad understanding of mechanical and electrical processes.
  • Technical Skills: Competence when interpreting engineering CAD drawings.
  • Communication and Negotiation: Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Adaptability: Flexible approach, with the ability to adapt to changing requirements.
  • Computer Skills: Excellent computer skills (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint).
