Job Title: Principal Communications Design Engineer

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong technical background in communication systems design. As a Principal Communications Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing internal communication systems for the Royal Navy's next attack class submarine.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop internal communication systems for the Royal Navy's next attack class submarine.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Integrated Combat Systems business, wider stakeholders, suppliers, and the Royal Navy to implement internal communication technology and concepts.
  • Provide technical input and engineering solutions in support of build activities, defect resolution, and change management.
  • Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Produce documentation required to support the design review process, including diagrams, technical specifications, supporting calculations, design evidence, and justifications.
  • Undertake design reviews and presentations to customers.
  • Review relevant supplier documentation and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately.
  • Provide technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities, including acceptance of equipment from suppliers through to system acceptance by the customer.
Requirements:
  • Proven track record of system or equipment design in internal communications systems.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in different engineering lifecycle phases.
  • A relevant Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) Degree or equivalent qualification and experience within an engineering background.
  • Technical report writing skills and experienced in requirements definition and management.
