Contek Recruitment Solutions Ltd: Mechanical Plant Engineer

We are working with a leading global company in the R+D and production of specialist metals for various industries, including aerospace, commercial aerospace, industrial, and defence sectors. They are seeking an experienced Mechanical Plant Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis.

Job Purpose:

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the plant's availability, reliability, and effectiveness. This includes identifying future improvements and maintenance requirements, as well as ensuring the day-to-day reliability of equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure plant operations are safe and efficient
  2. Develop and implement plans to ensure future reliability of plant equipment
  3. Investigate and resolve recurring plant issues to maximize uptime
  4. Analyze engineering-based non-standards
  5. Conduct regular reviews of planned maintenance
  6. Ensure safe working practices through method statements and risk assessments
  7. Implement plant and process improvements
  8. Manage engineering spend and ensure sufficient spares to minimize downtime
  9. Engage and control contractors
  10. Comply with environmental and safety legislation
  11. Liaise with maintenance and operations teams to maximize opportunities during plant downtime
  12. Identify cost savings through plant improvements and energy savings
Requirements:
  • Degree or HNC in a relevant field, or equivalent technical proficiency
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a relevant industry
  • IOSH certification is desirable
Organizational Skills:
  • Demonstrate fault-finding and analytical abilities
  • Able to coach maintenance staff on technical issues
  • Ability to identify and plan work to avoid unplanned production outages
  • Effective communication skills at a technical level
  • Ability to produce technical reports on incidents and plant occurrences
  • Manage purchase orders and payment authorization
Technical Skills:
  • Sound understanding of hydraulic systems
  • Knowledge of machinery, including gearboxes, drives, millers, lathes, and bar peelers
  • Knowledge of test piece furnaces and laboratory testing equipment
  • Pneumatic systems
  • Cranes and lifting equipment
  • Knowledge of PUWER and LOLER regulations
  • Ability to develop risk assessments and method statements
  • Competent in AutoCAD and/or Inventor design software
