Contract Wordings Technician

We are seeking a skilled Contract Wordings Technician to join our Wordings Team within the Office of the Chief Underwriting Officer (OCUO). The OCUO is part of Markel International's Corporate Management team, responsible for Performance, Risk, Technical Underwriting, Oversight, Governance, Customer Outcomes, and Reinsurance Placement for all Underwriting Divisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Stay up-to-date on regulatory, legal, and market developments, advising underwriters on potential impacts on Markel's product offerings.
  • Ensure wordings meet legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Support product and process changes due to regulatory developments.
  • Acquire knowledge of emerging risks and market trends to aid innovation and underwriting discipline.
  • Assist in the development of technical knowledge within product lines through training.
  • Work closely with Compliance, Product Governance, Legal & Regulatory, IT, and Operations.
  • Participate in strategic project work and manage the delivery of required actions.
  • Attend meetings and lead the development of bespoke wordings and clauses for large or complex risks.
  • Engage in training and development opportunities to enhance technical expertise.
  • Project management capability.
  • Experience of legal contract or insurance policy drafting.
  • Proven ability to time manage projects and work independently.
  • Knowledge of insurance business, markets, and general insurance related terminology.
