Art Education Specialist

The National Gallery is seeking a part-time Art Education Specialist to contribute to its Learning Strategy. This strategy aims to share the collection with a wider audience, creating a new vision of outreach, online and onsite learning. The successful candidate will join a team of full-time and part-time Gallery Educators and plan and deliver a programme of work in line with the gallery's ambitions.
Key responsibilities include teaching onsite, online, and outreach programmes for schools, families, young people, and adults across the free and ticketed public programme. The specialist will work core hours from 10am – 3pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, developing supplementary content and resources for EYFS, primary, and secondary school pupils and their teachers.
The Art Education Specialist will collaborate across National Gallery departments to develop content for Members and social media channels. Although they will work across audiences and programmes, the nature of this appointment means that they will predominantly work with schools and families.
Salary£25,000 - £30,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
Job DescriptionThis role involves planning and delivering engaging art education experiences for diverse audiences. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Developing and delivering educational content for schools, families, and young people;
- Collaborating with colleagues across the gallery to develop innovative learning programmes;
- Working closely with teachers and education teams to ensure high-quality learning experiences;
- Creating engaging resources and materials to support learning;
- Contributing to the development of the gallery's learning strategy.
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- A degree in a relevant subject area, such as art history, education, or a related field;
- Proven experience in art education, either in a museum or gallery setting or in a school or other educational institution;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse audiences;
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines;
- A flexible approach to working, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
