Job Summary

This Senior Psychiatrist opportunity is open in the Adults Core Team at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. The role involves delivering psychiatric assessments, treatments, and risk management for a caseload of complex patients.

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to providing psychiatric and medical risk management, supporting the Core Team with acute mental health presentations, risk assessments, and management plans.

The post holder will supervise a specialty doctor within the clinical team, liaise with other doctors and MDT teams in community, inpatient mental health, and primary care. Leadership and direct psychiatric services through clinical assessment, diagnosis, and care plan, risk assessment and management plans, treatment formulation, prescribing, and evidence-based interventions are key responsibilities.

You will take clinical responsibility for patients seen and advice given to members of the multi-disciplinary team. Providing mental health assessments on new referrals and open cases, continuing treatment in drug or psychological therapies, and participating in medical staff meetings within Forward Thinking Birmingham and BWC Mental Health Services are essential duties.

This role requires working closely with core and specialist community teams within FTB and the wider health economy, serving as psychiatric liaison with other agencies regarding continuity of patient care.

Maintenance of professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12 (2) approval, and adherence to Professional Codes of Conduct are also expected. Annual job plan review participation, financial management of the service, compliance with Trust policies, procedures, standing orders, and financial instructions are additional requirements.
