Sunderland, Sunderland, United Kingdom Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Family Nurse to join our Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) team in Sunderland. The successful candidate will have relevant experience of working with complex and vulnerable young parents and their babies.

The FNP is a national evidence-based programme aimed at improving antenatal health, child health and development, and parents' economic self-sufficiency in disadvantaged young families. As a Family Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering the FNP intensive, preventive home visiting programme to vulnerable, hard-to-reach young women who are expecting their first baby.

Main Duties

Key responsibilities include:

  • To recruit and engage eligible, hard-to-reach pregnant young women to the programme.
  • To use programme materials and methods in the clients' homes to achieve improved outcomes for pregnancy, children's health and development, and parental life-course.
  • To work therapeutically with a range of family members to promote behaviour change and positive outcomes for children.
  • To take a lead professional role when required, where children and young people with additional needs require an integrated package of support from more than one practitioner.
  • To work in collaboration with local statutory and mainstream services to ensure that families become confident in accessing a range of other universal health and support services.

About Us

At Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, we provide outstanding care to both our patients and our staff. We support staff through benefits, health and wellbeing initiatives, and opportunities for personal and professional development.

We offer an inclusive and supportive culture, where staff are encouraged to bring their whole selves to work. Our active Staff Networks identify areas for improvement, and we recognise staff through our Making a Difference and Team of the Month Awards.

We also have a comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme, counselling service, and fast-track physiotherapy service for employees. Our range of staff benefits and schemes support staff health, engagement, wellbeing, and inclusion.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Nursing or midwifery qualifications and registration with the NMC.
  • At least 2 years' experience of working with families in deprived communities, midwifery, child health, public health, and home visiting.
  • Experience of clinical supervision, working with children and families, and working with young people.
  • Understanding of the difference between advice giving and motivational approaches, and some knowledge of the research base of NFP.

Desirable Qualifications

The following qualifications are desirable:

  • Masters-level education.
  • Attachment theory, self-efficacy theory, human ecology theory, and behavioural change theory.
  • Parent/infant mental health.
