The Opportunity

Leonardo UK is a leader in airborne sensing and Defensive Aids equipment on military platforms worldwide. The company operates across multiple Lines of Business (LoB) based in the South of England and Scotland.

This Project Engineering Lead (PEL) role is within the Integrated Mission Solutions (IMS) sector in the NATO JEWCS Project. The PEL is responsible for the success of engineering activities on assigned projects, leading daily work packages assigned by the Project Engineering Manager (PEM).

The PEL ensures their team operates consistently within Policies & Procedures and fosters improvement goals defined by the Engineering Function. They work closely with the Project Engineering Manager and ensure the IPT Lead is informed of engineering status (progress, spend, risks, metrics) and supports internal and external engagements.

The PEL helps develop their Engineering Team, providing mentoring, coaching, and setting objectives and appraising their performance through the PDM process and regular engagements.

This opportunity can be based in Luton and benefits from hybrid-working.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Engineering aspects of the Project, ensuring technical quality, schedule, and budget
  • Manage cross-site, multi-disciplined engineering teams, ensuring roles within the teams are clearly defined
  • Create a positive working relationship with customers and partners to deliver project capability
  • Establish and maintain good lines of communication internally across the Engineering IPT, with the IPT Lead, Project Manager, and functional heads
  • Work closely with the Systems Design Authority, ensuring they are fully informed on technical progress, technical risk, and any mitigation strategies
  • Ensure the design solution meets the end-user requirement, is reliable, fully documented, and works within its designated environment
  • Ensure the design solution is compatible with the business area route map
  • Control project configuration and change management to ensure design reuse is maximised
  • Support the management of Suppliers and project Make or Buy decisions
  • Candidate concept solutions are captured, including the results of any trade-off studies and end-user engagement
  • Travel within the UK, working alongside other teams within Leonardo, Customers (MoD), End Users, and Industry Partners
Requirements:
  • Experience in engineering management and delivery of projects
  • Engineering or scientific Degree qualification (or equivalent)
  • Excellent communicator and able to provide clear direction to team members based on other sites
  • Ability to manage complex situations with sound judgement and the ability to balance conflicting challenges
  • Commercial and business awareness
  • Experience of working across the full life cycle
