Main Responsibilities

The Planning and Scheduling Manager will be responsible for coordinating all planning and scheduling information from project teams, maintenance contractors, and regional investment teams. This includes developing and implementing the planning process in accordance with Network Rail and TRU standards.

The successful candidate will develop and maintain Level 1 Master Schedule reviews and Level 2 Summary Schedules that incorporate all work planned for the project, including maintenance and renewals, with appropriate milestones to track the overall programme.

They will also develop and maintain a planning database that allows strategic planning information to be stored and managed. Additionally, the Planning and Scheduling Manager will coordinate all works and access requirements with the Route Access Manager's team and support them throughout the annual ROR process and possession planning process.

The ideal candidate will have experience in managing complex information within the planning governance principles, challenging processes and procedures to facilitate continuous improvement, and exceling in dealing with uncertainty. They will also have the ability to use basic and advanced IT systems, including Primavera P6.

The Planning and Scheduling Manager will work closely with the Project Directors to provide strategic level planning decisions and support Project Controls reporting staff.

Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years experience of Project/Programme planning and associated software planning tools.
  • Minimum 10 years experience of major engineering projects - ideally in Rail.
  • Ability to use basic and advanced IT systems - including Primavera P6.
  • Must have proven experience of working with technical engineering staff and be able to communicate well at all levels of the organisation.
  • Must have proven experience of working with a team and be able to demonstrate a shared success due to a combined team effort.
  • Graduate level with some degree of strategic thinking.
  • Self-motivated and able to make decisions.
Desirable Skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate some degree of staff motivation and leadership.
  • Familiarity with railway operations and engineering and the West Coast Main Line.
  • Must be prepared to travel and stay away from home when required.
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Extensive knowledge in creating and updating Schedule Strategies and processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of schedule assurance processes on Project and programmes.
  • Familiarity with NEC contract suite or Network Rail suite of contracts.
  • Good Visio skills and visualising schedules.
