Job Title: Assistant Financial Controller

Smith and Reed is seeking an experienced Assistant Financial Controller to provide general assistance in all areas of a busy accounting department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Financial Controller in the provision of timely financial information to company directors and the senior management team.
  • Maintain sound control procedures and adhere to company policy in respect of administrative, control, accounting, and legal matters.
  • Exercise proper management over all business assets.
  • Deputise for the Financial Controller in their absence and in certain circumstances.
Accounting and Financial Tasks:
  • Accurately process payroll and payments and overall management of the payroll systems and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly payroll journal and related reports.
  • Process invoices and supplier statement reconciliations.
  • Perform daily banking procedure and post weekly journal.
  • Control, prepare, and code Purchase Orders.
  • Audit of Daily Revenue and perform daily ad hoc checks on data.
  • Effectively manage the sales ledger account.
  • Monitor ledgers and ensure the credit management policy is implemented and adhered to.
  • Support with month-end accounting, including stock taking, production, and posting of month-end journals.
  • Assist in the completion of the monthly management accounts.
  • Ensure the accuracy of accounts and financial information provided by other departments within the hotel are processed accurately.
Relationships and Communication:
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, other departments, and head office personnel.
  • Assist in the timely and orderly archiving of all financial documents.
  • Implement and monitor effective internal financial controls – operating procedures.
Requirements:
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience of all aspects of accounts procedures.
  • Possess, or be working towards, professional qualifications such as AAT, ACCA, or CIMA.
  • Good IT skills – knowledge of accountancy spreadsheets/word processing.
  • Ability to maintain effective commercial relationships with customers when pursuing outstanding debts.
  • Ability to efficiently and methodically maintain databases and filing systems, so that they are easily retrievable throughout their required retention period.
  • Adaptable, creative with good decision-making and influencing skills.

This role is being offered on a full-time permanent basis.
