Job Purpose

The University of Glasgow's School of Health and Wellbeing is seeking a highly skilled Software Development Support Officer to join their Electrocardiology Core Laboratory team. As a key member of the Software Development Group, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the world-leading software used to interpret over 25 million electrocardiograms (ECGs) each year worldwide. Your expertise in high-level programming languages, Linux, and Windows operating systems will enable you to contribute to the development of innovative software solutions, leveraging artificial intelligence techniques to improve ECG interpretation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Collaborate with the team to develop and enhance software for automated ECG interpretation, focusing on Machine Learning tools for ECG classification.
2. Independently maintain, test, evaluate, and debug program code to ensure accuracy, completeness, and system operating proficiency.
3. Conduct detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis and interpretation of experimental results related to automated ECG interpretation.
4. Assist in preparing results of ECG analyses for inclusion in scientific publications.
5. Review systems and processes in selected aspects of automated ECG interpretation, analyzing areas for improvement and recommending revised diagnostic approaches.
6. Stay up-to-date with the use of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in automated ECG interpretation and advise team members on developments in this area.
7. Work with colleagues and external parties to develop novel software for further experimentation in diagnostic methods.
8. Assist with documentation compliance with IEC 62304 and participate in the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.
9. Contribute to the overall IT team culture, including SOPs development and review.
10. Liaise with non-IT colleagues to discuss system improvements and ensure technical and professional standards are met.
11. Assist in building databases of selected ECG abnormalities for new ECG diagnostic criteria development.
12. Familiarize yourself with University IT regulations and undertake various tasks as required by the Software Development Manager.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Essential:
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9 (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4) in mathematics, computing science, or a science-related subject.
A2 Extensive knowledge of a high-level programming language (e.g., C, C++) and Linux and Windows operating systems.

Desirable:
B1 Understanding of signal processing, including concepts related to filtering.
B2 Knowledge of database design and use.
B3 Knowledge of web-based applications, development software, and methodologies.
B4 Basic knowledge of Machine Learning methods for diagnostic use.

D1 Ability to develop skills in response to technological change within the area.

Experience

Essential:
E1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post, having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role.
E2 Relevant experience of development of software, ideally in a language such as C.
E3 Experience of writing software user documentation and providing user training.

Desirable:
F1 Familiarity with source code control systems and change management systems.
F2 Completion of a research project, perhaps as part of an undergraduate degree.

Terms and Conditions

Salary: Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum. This post is full-time and open-ended. Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.
