About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-focused Train Driver to join our team at Helensburg. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of goods across our network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate locomotives, both light engines and freight trains, with a strong emphasis on safety and adherence to regulations.
  • Comply with all rules and instructions, undergoing regular proficiency assessments to maintain competence.
  • Complete route and traction training, ensuring ongoing competence and adherence to industry standards.
  • Identify and report faults, following established procedures to minimize downtime and ensure safe operation.
  • Represent the company to our customers, maintaining a professional image and providing excellent customer service.
  • Stay up-to-date with all notices and amendments affecting the locomotive, train, or route, ensuring seamless operation.
  • Communicate effectively with GB Railfreight controllers, line managers, signallers, and customer representatives to ensure smooth operations.
  • Prioritize the safety of yourself and others, remaining vigilant and taking proactive measures to prevent accidents.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid European Train Driving License.
  • Demonstrate a clean safety record and a strong commitment to safety protocols.
  • Possess Freight Train Driver Competence and a thorough understanding of rail industry rules and regulations.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Hold a full, manual UK driver's license and reside within a 45-minute commute of the depot.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with iPAD and digital technologies.
  • Mentorship experience and a willingness to share knowledge and expertise.
  • Freight Train experience, particularly with Class 66 locomotive competence.
  • Varied route knowledge and a strong understanding of rail operations.
