Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Health Play Specialist to join our team at Transformationunitgm. As a key member of our Therapeutic and Specialised Play Service, you will be responsible for providing accessible and inclusive services to meet the needs of our patient populations.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. To assess patient need and provide appropriate prioritization of therapeutic play preparation, distraction, and emotional support for babies, children, and young people.
  2. To directly support, manage, and delegate referrals as appropriate for patients with complex presentations and/or those who struggle to cope with their hospital admission/procedures.
  3. To work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure evidence-based practice from assessment to evaluation of therapeutic intervention.

Requirements:

  • Registration with the Society of Health Play Specialists (SoHPS) and substantial experience working in an Acute Hospital setting or community setting.
  • Qualifications in Child Care/Play Work or Diploma in Children and Young People's Workforce or Early Childhood Studies (BA).
  • Basic Secondary Education up to 5 GCSE level or beyond, including English and Maths (GCSE Grade A* - C).
  • Management and Leadership qualification/training/modules.
  • Mentoring/coaching training.
  • Training in Guided Imagery, Adolescent Development, Teaching adults.

Desirable Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of therapeutic assessments and interventions to support patients cope with and understand their healthcare journey.
  • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Experience of supervision of staff and/or volunteers.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, utilising time management and organisation skills.
  • Ability to assess risks and manage risk benefit analysis, sharing this information effectively.
  • Ability to provide appropriate supervision and feedback to enhance the development of others.
  • Demonstrable IT Skills to include Excel, Word, and creating presentations.
  • Coaching skills.
  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
