Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Oncology Dietitian to join our team at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester. As a key member of our dietetic department, you will be responsible for providing expert nutritional care and management to patients with various types of cancer.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will have recent acute experience in oncology, advanced nutritional support skills, and excellent organisation and communication skills. You will work closely with nursing staff, AHPs, catering, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the provision of suitable meal options that meet the special needs of oncology patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To support the band 7 dietitian in a clinical area and be responsible for your own caseload
  • To nutritionally assess oncology patients using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary data, considering patients' social and ethnic circumstances, prognosis, and treatment
  • To convey complex specialised dietary advice and lifestyle changes to patients and carers using advanced counselling and communication skills
  • To diagnose malnutrition and/or risk of Refeeding Syndrome and liaise with consultants to optimise treatment outcomes
  • To attend ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings to provide expert advice on nutritional support for oncology patients and carers
  • To communicate with nursing staff, AHPs, catering, and other healthcare professionals on steps required to implement patient dietary prescriptions
  • To refer patients to primary, secondary, or alternative tertiary care for monitoring and therapeutic support following transfer or discharge
  • To work with the catering department to ensure suitable meal provision meets national standards
  • To write, deliver, and evaluate internal and external education and training sessions on nutrition and specialist dietetics in relation to oncology
  • To take an active role in research, development, implementation, and audit of departmental resources such as diet sheets, policies, and standards
  • To maintain accurate documentation on individual patients and be responsible for the storage of documentation with the Health Care Professions Council (H.C) and trust policy on confidentiality

Salary and Benefits:

The estimated salary for this role is £40,000-£60,000 per annum, depending on experience. Additionally, we offer a range of benefits, including pension scheme, annual leave, and career progression opportunities.
