Job Summary

We are seeking an exceptional Strategic Education Leader to join our team at GSL Education.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to lead and shape the educational experience of students, focusing on their wellbeing and behaviour. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a critical role in driving student outcomes and ensuring a positive school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deputise for the Headteacher, providing strategic support and contributing to whole-school initiatives.
  • Lead whole-school projects, reporting to stakeholders and collaborating with senior leaders.
  • Line-manage Assistant Headteachers, offering coaching, support, and accountability.
  • Promote the school's ethos and values through visible, hands-on leadership.
Pastoral Care and Culture for Learning
  • Implement a Therapeutic Thinking and Trauma-Informed approach to behaviour and student engagement.
  • Oversee pastoral matters for Years 7–11, maintaining high standards of student well-being and behaviour.
  • Collaborate with Heads of Year and the pastoral team to address individual student needs and eliminate barriers to learning.
  • Monitor and develop strategies for improving attendance, punctuality, and behavioural trends.
Team Management
  • Line-manage Heads of Year and relevant Assistant Headteachers.
  • Ensure the PSHE curriculum reflects emerging and relevant pastoral issues.
  • Oversee the consistent application of rewards and sanctions across all student groups.
Teaching and Classroom Excellence
  • Deliver high-quality teaching with a focus on excellent student outcomes.
  • Support staff in implementing effective pedagogy and classroom practices.
  • Maintain high expectations of student work, behaviour, and attitudes.
Safeguarding and Professional Development
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, including Level 3 Safeguarding Training.
  • Regularly reflect on leadership practices and promote staff well-being and workload balance.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven leadership experience in a senior pastoral role.
  • Expertise in Therapeutic Thinking and Trauma-Informed approaches.
  • Strong ability to engage, motivate, and support staff and students.
  • Commitment to professional development and adherence to safeguarding standards.
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
