Design Management Role

As a Design Management Specialist at Sewell Group, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the management and delivery of design information during both the pre-construction and construction phases of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the design team and consultant appointments throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Interpret client briefs and manage the production of Contractors' Proposals, ensuring they are complete and unambiguous.
  • Lead design-focused project development meetings with clients and design teams.
  • Assess pre-construction information and confirm gaps to inform design strategy.
  • Define and agree designer and consultant responsibilities to ensure design delivery.
  • Review design proposals and suggest alternative approaches for safe, compliant, and buildable efficiencies.
  • Produce and manage a realistic design programme and information required schedule.
  • Manage construction phase reviewable design and ensure client expectations are met.
  • Monitor agreed sustainability issues and ensure relevant certifications are issued.
  • Provide guidance to the Project Team on design-related items.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Hold a full driving license, valid in the UK.
  • Previous knowledge and experience within a design role in the Construction Industry.
  • Knowledge of up-to-date Building Regulations, design standards, and best practices.
  • Ability to work using own initiative and as part of a close-knit team.
  • Excellent computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Proactive attitude towards delivering construction works to a world-class standard.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with senior clients and supply chain.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Possess a positive approach to learning, development, and progression.
  • Flexible outlook towards hours worked.
  • Working knowledge of current Health and Safety practice.
  • Prior experience of using Common Data Environments such as Viewpoint.
  • Hold appropriate professional qualifications and/or chartership status.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous knowledge working with Local Authority, public sector, higher education, and Blue-Chip commercial clients.
  • Knowledge of sustainable and carbon reduction design solutions.
  • Commitment to mentoring the team to develop knowledge and approaches across the business.
