Our Ophthalmology Services

At University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, we are at the forefront of clinical research and a centre of excellence in the development of new treatments and complex care. Our Ophthalmology services are delivered across multiple sites, accounting for 12% of our annual patient activity.

We are currently seeking a Specialist Optometrist to join our expanding team. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for delivering core and specialist optometry clinics, recommending defined care and treatment plans. We will provide you with training to succeed in specialist areas and offer flexibility with full-time or part-time hours.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform core optometry duties, including paediatric/adult refraction, low vision assessments, and specialist paediatric, corneal, and contact lens clinics.
  • Diagnose, treat, prescribe, and advise patients on a broad range of unique and complex cases, exercising independent clinical judgement.
  • Manage a personal case load, planning care based on medical evidence, specialist knowledge, and departmental protocols.
  • Contribute to the development of specialist services, clinical audit, and teaching.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity to join a caring and nurturing team, with plenty of learning and development opportunities. If you have a passion for delivering high-quality patient care and excellent communication skills, we would love to hear from you.

Please contact Helen Cant, Talent and Engagement Lead, for further information and to arrange a site visit or discussion.
