As an Environmental Conservation Specialist, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding Exmoor's natural and cultural heritage for future generations.
The RoleYou will provide effective and community-focused planning services, managing the impact of developments on Exmoor's special qualities and ensuring they contribute to the social and economic wellbeing of communities. Your responsibilities will include:
- Processing planning, listed building, and other applications within statutory deadlines
- Negotiating with applicants and agents to align proposals with policies
- Acting as the first point of contact for the public
- Offering guidance and advice in person, on-site, and via letter, phone, and email
- Drafting reports and presenting them to planning committees
- Monitoring development sites to ensure compliance with planning conditions
- Investigating alleged breaches of planning control
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- A degree in Town and Country Planning or equivalent experience
- An RTPI qualification or be working towards it
- An understanding of National Park purposes and planning in protected landscapes
- The ability to manage workloads and meet statutory deadlines
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work objectively in challenging situations
- A UK driving licence to travel to remote rural locations without access to public transport

The estimated salary range for this position is £31,586 - £35,235 per annum, plus benefits including 30 days holiday per annum, paid sickness leave, and a Local Government Pension Scheme.
