Job Title: Skilled Painter
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced painter to join our team at Matchtech. As a skilled painter, you will be responsible for applying specialist paint schemes, including primer, topcoat, anti-abrasion, and gloss, on metallic and composite components.
Key Responsibilities:
- EHS Compliance: Promote a safe workplace environment and ensure compliance with all Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and procedures.
- Clocking and Booking: Accurate and timely clocking (time and attendance) and booking (job costing).
- Housekeeping: Maintain clean workstations and proper storage of tools and equipment.
- Quality: Adhere to all quality standards, processes, and procedures, ensuring minimum wastage.
- Cost Management: Support cost reduction initiatives by reducing unnecessary expenditure.
- Knowledge & Skills: Stay updated with necessary operations and maintain Approved Operator (AO) stamps.
- Team Working: Participate actively in team meetings, share knowledge, and coach trainees if required.
- Perform other reasonable duties: As assigned consistent with the role.
Role Specific:
- Application of specialist paint schemes: Including primer, topcoat, anti-abrasion, and gloss, on metallic and composite components.
- Application of resin and fillers: To components as per customer specifications.
- Manual abrading and use of orbital sander: To ensure a high-quality finish.
- Masking and stencilling: Aircraft details and assemblies according to technical drawings and work instructions.
- Mixing fillers, paints, and resins: Per manufacturer instructions and COSHH requirements.
- Operating cure booths: And monitoring paint cure cycles.
- Testing painted surfaces: Using Tape, isoscope, and gloss.
Job Requirements:
- Essential:
- Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3, or equivalent in a recognised allied trade.
- Competence in numeracy and literacy skills and the ability to read and understand technical documentation.
- Good dexterity and a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Excellent knowledge of health and safety practices.
- Drive to succeed both individually and as part of a team.
- Positive approach to problem-solving.
- Participation in training programmes and adaptability to new learning.
- Self-motivated with a positive, can-do attitude.
- Excellent timekeeping and communication skills.
- Working understanding of the 5 S and lean principles.
- Basic IT skills.
- Strong work ethic with a real positive attitude to succeed.
- Desirable:
- Previous paint experience in aerospace or manufacturing.
