Revvity is seeking a skilled Laboratory Technologist to join our team in a fixed term contract of approximately 12 months. The successful candidate will start in the summer of 2024, with the exact date to be confirmed.

Job Purpose:

The Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for performing high throughput clinical genome sequencing and other clinical assays as required. They will assist in technical troubleshooting, validation, and testing processes, reviewing lab results, developing and writing operational procedures, monitoring laboratory key performance indicators, quality metrics, and the QC program. They will also provide regulatory, due diligence, and internal auditing support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical test processes and evaluate results produced relative to the diagnostic assessment.
  • Engage in continuous process and service improvement, making and implementing recommendations to improve operational efficiency and implement new services for areas of responsibility.
  • Strictly adhere to quality control guidelines to ensure the integrity of laboratory specimens and accuracy of results.
  • Ensure all work is in accordance with country regulations, organizational policies, and accreditation/compliance requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining ISO 15189 and other accreditation and regulatory agency standards and regulations.
  • Perform laboratory assays, including clinical and development testing, and other duties as required, including shift work.

Experience:

  • Clinical experience with various molecular techniques, including high throughput DNA sequencing, in a commercial, academic, or government laboratory.
  • HCPC registration is preferred.
  • Experience with nucleic acid-based assays.
  • The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, highly organized, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Practical experience with clinical laboratory practices and protocols is a definite plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The Laboratory Technologist should have the ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. They should also be able to write routine reports and correspondence.

Maths Ability:

The Laboratory Technologist should have the ability to work with mathematical concepts, such as probability and statistical inference. They should also be able to apply concepts, such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions, to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

The Laboratory Technologist should be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. They should also be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Computer Skills:

The Laboratory Technologist should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Microsoft Excel. They should also be able to operate laboratory computer systems.

Other Skills:

The Laboratory Technologist should demonstrate effective interpersonal communication between departments and coworkers. They should also be able to communicate effectively (orally and written) with coworkers, employees of other departments, supervisors, and administration.

The successful candidate should have knowledge of quality control practices and requirements of UKAS, ISO 15189, CAP, and other regulatory agencies.

Working Conditions:

  • The Laboratory Technologist will work in a clinical laboratory environment, with exposure to blood-borne pathogens and hazardous chemicals. They must wear personal protective equipment, including a lab coat, gloves, and completely closed footwear.
  • Weekend rotation may be required.
