About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Planning Officer to join our dynamic and growing team at Essex County Council. As a key member of our Planning Department, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality and well-designed Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) across Essex and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage complex planning cases, leading or playing a major role in achieving larger/high-profile projects across various service/partnership areas.
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge in relevant professional areas, with a focus on planning policy and legislation, and Government guidance on planning issues.
  • Represent Essex County Council with confidence and approach, engaging with key agencies and stakeholders to deliver policy outcomes.
  • Provide evidence at plan examinations, public inquiries, or similar, and build effective relationships in an agile environment.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative solutions to demonstrate capabilities and impact, and participate in change initiatives.
Requirements
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent by experience, with an MRTPI qualification and substantial post-qualification experience from District Councils or the private sector.
  • Continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional areas, with a postgraduate management qualification (Certificate in Management) desirable.
  • Proven experience of managing complex cases, leading or playing a major role in achieving larger/high-profile projects, and demonstrable knowledge and understanding of planning policy and legislation.
  • Confident manner and approach in representing Essex County Council, with effective communication and influencing skills, and the ability to build effective relationships in an agile environment.
