A Day in the Life

As a Culinary Assistant, you'll be responsible for assisting the Executive Head Chef in the preparation and cooking of high-quality dishes. Your working day will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation and cooking of dishes in accordance with recipes and standards
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen workstations, ensuring adherence to food safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Learning and mastering basic culinary techniques under the guidance of senior kitchen team members
  • Supporting the Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, and Head Chef in maintaining inventory levels and ordering supplies as needed
  • Following instructions and completing tasks assigned by senior kitchen staff in a timely and efficient manner
  • Following proper food handling procedures, including temperature monitoring, labelling, and storage, to ensure food safety and prevent contamination

Key Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation and cooking of high-quality dishes
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen workstations
  • Learning and mastering basic culinary techniques
  • Supporting the kitchen team in maintaining inventory levels and ordering supplies
  • Following instructions and completing tasks assigned by senior kitchen staff
  • Following proper food handling procedures

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • The ability to adhere to the company's rules and regulations on policies and procedures relating to fire, hygiene, health & safety, and licensing regulations
  • The ability to manage various sections of the kitchen while ensuring health & safety standards are met
  • To be flexible in your approach and able to assist the Sous Chef and any other members of the kitchen brigade when required
  • A team player who thrives in the hustle and bustle of a busy kitchen department
  • Someone who is passionate about food and willing to learn
  • An understanding of quality control and kitchen standards
  • Previous experience in a similar role is essential
