This is a substantive consultant post in paediatrics, available due to reduced sessions within the existing team. The post-holder will be part of a team providing paediatric and neonatal care in PCH and community paediatric services. The ideal candidate will have experience in neonatal care and be able to support on-site neonatal services.

Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The post offers 6 sessions DCC and up to 2 SPA sessions, with the post-holder based at PCH.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide clinical leadership in general paediatrics and neonatal care in PCH.
  • Supervise junior medical staff and participate in the postgraduate and undergraduate teaching programme.
  • Contribute to clinical governance issues, including medical audit and research.
  • Participate in the consultant of the week system for general paediatrics and neonatal unit.
  • Provide on-call off-site consultant cover and contribute to safeguarding rota.
Person SpecificationQualifications
  • Full GMC registration and MB, BS or equivalent.
  • MRCPCH or equivalent and eligible for CCT within 6 months of interview date.
  • NLS and APLS/EPLS certified and experience in paediatric diabetes.
  • Relevant higher degree and NLS/APLS/EPLS instructor.
  • SPIN in paediatric diabetes and at time of interview, the candidate must be on the Specialist Register.
  • Neonatal experience and experience in paediatric diabetes.
  • Leadership skills and experience of multi-agency working.
  • Specialist experience in one or more particular areas of practice.
Ability
  • Able to keep good medical notes and work unsupervised.
  • Good written and oral communication skills and ability to manage time effectively.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team and at least level 3 child protection training.
  • Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team and communicate effectively.
Audit and Research
  • Participate in research, clinical audit and quality improvement projects.
  • Presentation at Regional meetings and formal research training.
  • Demonstrate ability to design a research or audit project.
Management
  • Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS and understanding of management issues.
  • Willingness to lead service developments and shows interest and demonstrated ability.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage e.g. project work, mentoring staff.
Teaching
  • Evidence of organising programmes and teaching medical students and junior doctors.
  • Willingness to teach medical undergraduates and evidence of substantive professional development.
  • Participation in departmental teaching and organisation of further training programmes in medical education.
  • Formal training in teaching methods and demonstrate ability in teaching and training.
Personal Qualities
  • High ethical and professional standards and able to demonstrate commitment to evidence-based practice.
  • Potential to cope with stressful situations and good general health.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the value of multi-disciplinary, multi-agency working.
Other Requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current issues in the wider NHS and ability to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service.
  • Evidence of previous good performance and attendance and evidence of current Hepatitis "B" status.
  • Subject to satisfactory: Immigration status, Health clearance, Disclosure check, Registration with the G.M.C.

Salary: £91,722 to £119,079 a year per annum pro rata
