We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our team at James Walker. As a key member of our Executive Management team, you will be responsible for the successful management of manufacturing operations across our Cockermouth site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure a safe working environment and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Manage all manufacturing operations, including toolmaking, compounding, extrusion, materials preparation, moulding, finishing, and inspection processes.
  • Set and measure clear KPIs aligned with our strategic plans, focusing on Quality, Cost, Delivery, Service, and People Excellence.
  • Ensure product quality meets customer requirements and is produced in compliance with our Quality System.
  • Provide strong leadership, develop skills of managers and supervisors, and ensure all employees receive appropriate training.
  • Build a quality-focused ethos and promote a 'right first time, can do' culture within the manufacturing departments.
  • Work collaboratively with planning, configuration, customer service, purchasing, and engineering functions to deliver high service levels to internal and external customers.
Requirements
  • Engaging leadership style with ability to lead, motivate, and develop individuals and teams.
  • Excellent communication, numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Sound knowledge and application of material processing and manufacturing techniques.
  • Implementation and measurement of KPIs.
  • Setting and management of revenue and capital budgets and expenditure.
  • Knowledge of Lean and Continuous Improvement.
  • Good understanding of Employment Legislation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree Qualified or equivalent in Sciences, Engineering, or Manufacturing.
  • Recognised Lean or CI qualification.
  • Recognised H&S qualification.
  • Working knowledge of materials compounding, extrusion processes, compression, and injection moulding techniques.
