We are seeking a highly experienced and creative Senior Brand Designer to join our team at Asos. As a Senior Brand Designer, you will play a critical role in driving the success of our dresses range, working closely with cross-functional teams to build a commercial and trend-led product range that meets the needs of our 20-something customer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and Development: Research and develop a market-leading dresses range, including developing big deals, key seasonal shapes, selecting fabrics, and trends for our customer.
  • Print Direction: Research and advise on print direction, working closely with in-house and freelance graphic designers and fabric suppliers to develop innovative prints for our range.
  • Fabric Basics: Drive product quality and considered product that mixes easily in our customer's wardrobe with designer pieces, with a strong vision and direction on fabric basics for both core and premium ranges.
  • Embroidery and Embellishment: Deliver a dresses range that meets our aesthetic, with a strong vision and experience in embroidery, cutwork, and embellishment.
  • Trend Direction: Play a key role in brainstorming and collating trend direction for our brand.
  • Presentation and Influencing: Present trend research and have strong influencing skills to ensure you are the design voice for the department when working closely with Buying, Merchandising, and Commercial leadership.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate across departments and other functions of the business, including Marketing, to ensure the design vision is communicated clearly.
  • New Product Opportunities: Identify and execute new product opportunities to ensure we are leading the fashion market, not following.
  • Business Initiatives: Contribute to business-wide initiatives and projects, positively influencing and championing change.
  • Commercial Relevance: Use relevant sales data and insights to design commercially relevant, fashion-forward ranges.
  • Customer Insights: Anticipate the needs of our 20-something customer, using sales data, customer profile analytics, and trend research to deliver commercial product ranges.
  • Sourcing and Supply Chain: Source new fabrications, techniques, and trim, working closely with in-house Buying teams to create fresh product each season and shape the product direction for the department.
  • Technical Collaboration: Work with the Technical team on fits on a weekly basis, identifying and helping create new silhouette blocks for the department and produce a commercial range.
  • Supplier Relationships: Build relationships with suppliers and advise factories on direction, silhouette, construction, key details, fabrics, trimmings, and artworks.
  • Team Leadership: Manage, develop, and motivate more junior team members, providing them with clear direction and regular feedback.
  • Support and Deputation: Support and deputise for the Head of Design as required, attending product reviews or guiding the team on range building.
  • Brand Purpose: Maintain a clear understanding of our brand purpose and Fashion with Integrity, ensuring these principles are fully embedded within the team, and looking for opportunities to use sustainable materials wherever possible.
  • Styling and Visual Merchandising: Agree styling and visual merchandising guidelines with Studios and Global teams.
  • Design Team Leadership: Lead/Role model and contribute to a dynamic world-leading design team, providing clear direction and development to the team, identifying individual training needs, and encouraging collaborative ways of working.
  • Team Motivation: Motivate and engage the team through recognition and regular feedback.
Requirements
  • Experience: Significant experience in designing dresses across woven and jersey within an aspirational brand or high-street retailer.
  • Direct Sourcing: Previous experience of direct sourcing from fabric mills, with knowledge of cut and construction to create new concepts/pieces.
  • Pattern Cutting and Machining: Experience in working with pattern cutters & machinists so that you are able to develop the best stand-out fashion product for the dresses range.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experience of working cross-functionally to deliver initiatives that have a positive commercial impact.
  • Commercial Thinking: Proven ability to drive the success of a department or brand through strategic and commercial thinking.
  • Brand and Customer Understanding: A commercial handwriting and strong understanding of our brand and customer.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with Photoshop, Adobe, CAD.
  • Culture and Fashion: Plugged into 20-something culture and fashion, passionate about the product.
  • Organisational Skills: Strong organisational skills, initiative, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relationship Building: The ability to build great relationships with colleagues across the business and suppliers alike.
  • Buy-In and Change Management: Can gain buy-in from the team and management to potentialize opportunities, and embraces and champions the benefits of change within the wider team.
