About the Role

The Senior Principal Cost Controls Specialist at McDermott International, Ltd plays a crucial role in solving complex problems that impact project performance. They must identify and resolve issues proactively, ensuring the project stays on track. This specialist is considered a subject matter expert in Cost Management, offering a broad base of knowledge about Project Controls. They impact the direction and resource allocation of programs and projects in their discipline, working within general functional policies and industry guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret the project contract and assist the Project Director in its application.
  • Provide input to the Project Execution Plan.
  • Coordinate all financial, contractual, and administrative issues with Project Accounting.
  • Ensure project setup tasks are properly completed.
  • Support Project Accounting in compiling and reviewing project invoices.
  • Monitor project costs and revenues, preparing necessary project reports as required.
  • Evaluate, negotiate, and agree to costs and revenue with clients and subcontractors for changes in contract and subcontract work.
  • Ensure Project Controls systems are properly set up and maintained.
  • Support the development of claims, including back charges against subcontractors and vendors.
  • Develop the monthly project EAC.
  • Assist the Project Director in preparing financial and contractual correspondence.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of financial and contractual matters.
  • Monitor key dates, particularly against dates defined in the main contract and subcontracts.
  • Prepare contract supplements.
  • Attend meetings regarding cost, progress, technical, and contractual matters.
  • Lead the Change Management process.
  • Manage Project Risk and Opportunity Management.
  • Prepare the project close-out report.
  • Oversee the cost and progress functions on the project.
  • Support Regional and Global Project Controls with ad-hoc tasks.
  • Liaise with Projects Controls personnel to improve accuracy and feedback on upcoming projects.
  • Support bid efforts as required.
  • Ensure adherence to McDermott systems and processes.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Construction, Business, or a related field.
  • At least 12+ years of experience in project control activities.
  • Supervisory experience in a matrix environment and progressive experience working for a contractor.
  • Solid background in the oil and gas industry.
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6.
