Role

The University of York is seeking a highly skilled and experienced financial leader to join our team as Director of Finance. As a key member of our senior leadership team, you will play a critical role in shaping the financial future of our institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Finance Department, including Procurement, Transaction Services, Accounting and Planning & Performance, to ensure the effective management of our financial resources.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive financial strategies that align with the University's mission and goals, driving business growth and sustainability.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing critical insights to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Implement robust financial controls and risk management practices to safeguard the University's assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide strategic financial advice on major initiatives, capital projects, and investments, ensuring that financial considerations are fully integrated into business planning.
  • Foster a high-performance culture within the Finance Department, driving continuous improvement and efficiency in financial operations.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • A professionally qualified accountant with a strong track record of financial leadership in a complex organization.
  • Experience of using finance to drive business performance improvement and cultural change.
  • Strong strategic thinking, with the ability to align financial strategies with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Expertise in financial management, risk assessment, and implementing effective financial controls.
  • A leader who fosters collaboration, integrity, and a culture of high performance.
