Job Opportunity: Mission Lead

Enna, a specialist recruitment organisation for neurodivergent jobseekers, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mission Lead to join their team.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Environmental Forecasting mission within the Environment and Sustainability Grand Challenge at the Alan Turing Institute. This role will involve developing the strategy and scope of the mission, managing a team of researchers and professional staff, and convening Institute partners to maximise opportunities for translation and exploitation of research findings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the Environmental Forecasting mission strategy, ensuring delivery against objectives within allocated budgets and timeframes.
  • Lead and manage a team of researchers and professional staff, providing guidance and support to ensure successful mission delivery.
  • Convene Institute partners to maximise opportunities for translation and exploitation of research findings.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and communication.
  • Ensure that potential for real-world application is embedded in the design and delivery of the mission's research.
  • Lead and contribute to efforts of generating mission funding through a diverse range of sources.
Requirements
  • PhD or equivalent level of professional qualifications and/or experience in data science or related quantitative discipline.
  • Record of research excellence in an academic, government and/or industrial setting in the area of environmental modelling.
  • In-depth understanding of the national data science and AI landscape, in the context of environment & sustainability.
  • Demonstrable experience of income generation for large-scale research initiatives.
  • Demonstrable ability and vision to develop and deliver large strategic initiatives.
  • Experience of line management, and/or matrix management.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, with and to a wide range of people and audiences at all levels.
  • Ability to provide leadership to a diverse team of scientists and engineers, assessing and managing performance through regular reviews and appraisals.
  • Demonstrable ability to plan and deliver large-scale collaborative research projects or programmes, whilst managing multi-disciplinary research teams.
  • Ability to communicate, translate and champion research findings, for optimal results to relevant stakeholders.
