Job Title: Principal Engineer – Safety

Location: Flexible working arrangements available, with options for remote work.

Salary: Negotiable, based on experience.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our Safety & Environmental team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice on product safety matters, engaging with third parties, and developing safety arguments using appropriate safety analyses methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide safety advice to project and engineering managers, ensuring safety considerations are correctly considered and implemented.
  • Engage with third parties to review and gather supporting Design Safety Justification (DSJ) report evidence.
  • Develop safety arguments, both physical and functional, using appropriate safety analyses methods, producing and updating DSJ's and safety management documentation.
  • Line manage other safety practitioners in your team.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree-level qualification in a relevant STEM subject (Engineering, Physics, Maths, Science).
  • Broad knowledge of industry safety standards (such as Def Stan and 00-056, IEC 61508 or similar).
  • Demonstrable experience in safety engineering activities in the defence, maritime, or a relevant highly regulated domain.
