SENCO Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated team as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) at an outstanding secondary school in Woking.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead on attainment and progress for all students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Identify and adopt effective teaching approaches for students with SEND, and monitor teaching and learning activities to meet their needs.
  • Liaise with primary schools to ensure continuity of support and learning for transferring students with SEND.
  • Collect and interpret specialist assessment data, and review systems for identifying, assessing, and reviewing SEN students.
  • Provide training opportunities for staff on best practices in teaching students with SEND.
  • Set challenging targets for raising achievement among SEND students and devise appropriate interventions and curriculum pathways.
  • Work with external agencies to support student progress and access to the curriculum.
  • Teach within the age range 11-18, adapting and contributing to the delivery of the new GCSE and A-Level curriculum.
Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree at a 2.1 or higher and Qualified Teacher Status through a PGCE, GTP, SCITT, or equivalent.
  • The National SENCO qualification or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of working effectively with families, training, and advising teachers on best practices.
  • Experience in managing and leading groups of students/young people, with evidence of continually improving student outcomes.
