Job Summary:
eNL Legal Recruitment is seeking an experienced Chief Counsel to join our client, a leading university in Buckinghamshire. As a key member of the senior executive team, you will provide strategic legal advice and guidance on all matters affecting the university.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and advise on all legal matters arising from the university's activities, including governance, commercial, contracting, research, employment, and student matters.
- Support the University Council, University Secretary, and senior executive team on significant issues and business matters.
- Manage the in-house Legal Services Team, ensuring effective and efficient legal support across a wide range of law operating in a complex organization.
- Supervise members of the Legal Services Team and ensure compliance with Solicitors Regulation Authority and Bar Council requirements.
- Procure and manage external legal services when required, ensuring quality and value.
- Manage the legal budget and resources within the role's responsibility.
- Possess outstanding technical legal skills and experience in commercial, corporate, and intellectual property law, with a good understanding of data protection law.
- Excellent written and oral communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to listen and understand the needs of university stakeholders and communicate complex legal matters to a range of lay audiences.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Understanding of charity law and broad expertise across regulatory matters impacting a university, such as student complaints and discipline and charitable donations.
