About the Role

As a SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital part in supporting students with diverse needs, helping them overcome social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Your role will focus on providing tailored support during lessons and activities, fostering a safe and nurturing classroom atmosphere, and promoting emotional well-being and positive behavior.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting Students with SEMH Needs: Assist students with social, emotional, and mental health challenges by providing individualized support during lessons and activities.
  • Fostering a Safe Classroom Environment: Create a welcoming and inclusive space where students feel comfortable expressing themselves, and you can help them develop essential social skills.
  • Collaborating with Teachers: Work closely with teachers to implement personalized strategies and interventions that promote emotional well-being and positive behavior.
  • Motivating Students: Encourage students to participate in classroom activities, contribute positively to group work, and develop a growth mindset.
  • Providing Emotional Support: Be a source of emotional support for students, helping them navigate their feelings, develop coping strategies, and build resilience.
Requirements
  • Qualifications and Experience: A degree or qualification in psychology, or a related field (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification), and previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEMH needs.
  • Skills and Competencies: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a patient and empathetic approach, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Safeguarding and Child Protection: Knowledge of safeguarding practices and a commitment to creating a safe learning environment.
