About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Career Guidance Specialist to join our team at HMP Dovegate. As a Career Guidance Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality information, advice, and guidance to learners from their arrival in prison and throughout their learner journey.

You will advise individuals on employment, training, and educational opportunities to help them make informed decisions about their future. You will also develop and maintain relationships with internal and external agencies providing education, training, and employment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Sequence a learner's journey through Custody by attending initial Allocations Boards and labour Boards to provide careers information, advice, and guidance on a one-to-one and group session basis across all 3 College sites.
  • Refer learners to appropriate providers for employment, education, and training during custody and on release.
  • Collect and update information on local opportunities, job seeking skills, and related issues available through external providers to meet the needs of the population.
  • Develop relationships with education, training, and employment to ensure learner needs are met.
  • Work closely with Education and the Offender Management Unit in setting and reviewing targets.
  • Reflect upon and evaluate personal performance, participating in appraisals and taking personal responsibility for keeping professionally up to date, requesting, and participating in personal development as appropriate.
  • Keep up to date with and react to any Government initiatives and legislation which directly impacts upon the delivery of careers education and guidance.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Minimum: GCSE (Grade C or above) Maths and English, IAG Level 3 qualification working towards Level 5, ECDL qualification or equivalent at level 2.
  • Desirable: IAG Level 5 qualification, Advanced ECDL qualification or equivalent.
