Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Clinical Scientist to join our team in the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at Barts Health NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and oversight of specialist areas of the laboratory, including proteins, LC-MS/MS, HPLC, and point-of-care testing.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in the Duty Biochemist rota and provide interpretation of results and advice on investigations to medical staff and other service users.
  • Validate and implement new methods and assays, overseeing their introduction into routine clinical use.
  • Undertake and publish research, engaging in quality improvement projects.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Collaborate with medical staff and other service users to provide expert advice on clinical and scientific matters.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have a 1st or 2nd class honours degree in chemistry or biochemistry, or an assessed equivalent knowledge and expertise in clinical biochemistry. They will also have State registration with the Health Care Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist (Clinical Biochemistry) or be expected to gain this within one month.

Desirable criteria include a PhD, experience of one or more of the following areas: LC-MS/MS, HPLC, proteins, point-of-care testing, trace elements, and awareness of scientific developments and modern technology in clinical biochemistry.
