We are seeking a seasoned Database Engineer to join our team at Selby Jennings. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional with a strong background in PostgreSQL and open-source technologies.

The ideal candidate will bring robust expertise in PostgreSQL, security management, and performance tuning, with experience across on-premise and cloud environments (AWS). As a key member of our database platform team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining critical database infrastructure.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement database solutions focused primarily on PostgreSQL, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across various platforms.
  • Serve as a PostgreSQL expert with 5+ years of experience managing PostgreSQL databases in both on-premise and cloud environments (AWS RDS, Aurora).
  • Leverage open-source tools (e.g., pgAdmin, Prometheus, Grafana) to manage, monitor, and optimize database performance.
  • Proactively monitor database performance and resolve issues to ensure seamless operations and scalability.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including backups, restores, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Implement database security measures, including encryption, access controls, and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with development and business teams to optimize database schemas, queries, and indexing to improve performance and scalability.
  • Contribute to the development and enforcement of best practices, ensuring consistency in database management processes.

Key Requirements:

  • 5+ years of production experience managing PostgreSQL databases, with a focus on high availability, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Experience using open-source tools for database management and monitoring (e.g., pgAdmin, pgBackRest, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Strong experience with AWS databases such as RDS and Aurora, with knowledge of cloud architecture.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server or other RDBMS platforms (e.g., MySQL, Oracle) is advantageous.
  • Experience in Linux-based environments for database management.
  • Solid understanding of security best practices and tools for encryption, database security, and permissions management.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
