Senior Electrical Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team at Kenton Black Ltd in Manchester, UK. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will work independently on various projects, overseeing the entire design process or assisting as a technical expert on specialized designs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess project requirements, break down tasks, and collaborate with Project Managers to determine scope, budget, and staffing.
  • Develop scope of work for electrical design based on preliminary reviews and client meetings.
  • Prepare engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems and analyze existing system operations.
  • Work with code officials and design professionals to address building code interpretations or exceptions.
  • Assign and review project design team work, monitoring progress and alerting Project Managers to scope changes or additional services.
  • Review contractor payment applications and possess a thorough understanding of the construction process.
  • Coordinate project document completion within the company and externally with clients and design professionals.
  • Prepare or review construction budgets based on experience and project scope.
  • Promote and participate in the development of company design and production standards.
  • Assist in the education and development of design staff and serve as a resource for design questions.
  • Utilize computer-assisted engineering and design software to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Create specialized drawings, such as electrical riser diagrams.
  • Provide drawings for own designs and produce sketches for incorporation into drawings by drafters.
  • Research design options and document findings for Project Designers/Engineers.
  • Ensure drawings and designs adhere to company production and design standards.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 years of design experience, with a strong preference for Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Nutraceutical, or Life Science industry experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Registered Professional Engineer is strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
  • Experience with design of building electrical systems, such as building service, power distribution, generators, lighting, fire alarm, security, and other low-voltage systems is essential.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, IBC, and other related building codes and standards.
  • Experience with medium-voltage systems, electrical hazardous classified areas, and telecommunications systems is a plus.
