As a Behaviour Mentor in a Primary School, you will play a crucial role in supporting the social and emotional well-being of students, particularly in Year 5. Your primary responsibility will be to foster a positive learning environment, addressing behavioural challenges and promoting a sense of community among students.
Key Responsibilities:- Individualised Support:
- Identify students who require additional support due to behavioural challenges.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff to gather information about students' behaviour.
- Behavioural Interventions:
- Develop and implement individualised behaviour plans for students with specific needs.
- Work closely with teachers to integrate behaviour support strategies into the classroom.
- Crisis Management:
- Be prepared to handle crisis situations effectively, ensuring the safety of students and staff.
- Collaborate with the school's leadership team and other support staff to address critical incidents.
- Group Work:
- Conduct group sessions to address common behavioural issues or social skills development.
- Foster a sense of community and cooperation among students.
- Communication:
- Regularly communicate with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders regarding students' progress and challenges.
- Provide feedback on behaviour improvement and celebrate successes.
- Data Collection and Monitoring:
- Keep detailed records of students' behaviour and progress.
- Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and make adjustments as needed.
- Professional Development:
- Stay informed about the latest research and best practices in behaviour management.
- Attend relevant workshops and training sessions to enhance your skills.
- Positive Reinforcement:
- Implement a system of positive reinforcement to acknowledge and reward positive behaviours.
- Create a classroom or school-wide reward system.
- Conflict Resolution:
- Teach conflict resolution and problem-solving skills to students.
- Facilitate discussions to address conflicts and promote understanding.
- Social Skills Training:
- Conduct social skills groups to enhance students' abilities to interact positively with peers and adults.
- Use role-playing and other interactive activities to reinforce social skills.
- Collaboration with Teachers:
- Work closely with teachers to create a consistent approach to behaviour management.
- Provide support in implementing strategies in the classroom.
- Family Involvement:
- Engage with parents and caregivers to create a supportive home environment.
- Collaborate with families to reinforce positive behaviour at home.
- Early Intervention:
- Identify and address behavioural issues early on to prevent escalation.

- Establish clear professional boundaries while building positive relationships with students.
