Biomedical Scientist/Biomedical Scientist Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our Point of Care Testing (POCT) team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing an efficient, cost-effective, and timely support service to equipment users across our sites, ensuring the quality, training, health and safety, risk management, and clinical governance of the POCT service.
Main Duties of the JobThe post holder will be accountable to the POCT Coordinator for the satisfactory performance of their duties, working as a team to deliver point of care services across our sites. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the POCT Coordinator in the provision of the POCT service, including supervising staff and deputising for the POCT Coordinator when necessary
- Maintaining the quality, training, health and safety, risk management, and clinical governance of the POCT service
- Communicating with all users of POCT equipment, including delivering training, problem-solving, and signposting
- Demonstrating polite, courteous behavior and maintaining good customer relations
- Providing scientific and technical guidance and training on the safe and appropriate use and procurement of POCT equipment for all personnel
- Verification and validation of new POCT devices to ensure their analytical performance meets the clinical need and quality standards
- Undertaking planned and preventative maintenance of POCT devices to ensure correct function of equipment, recording of errors or problems, and troubleshooting where appropriate

Person SpecificationThe ideal candidate will have:
- Appropriate BSc or equivalent experience
- NHS laboratory experience, minimum 1 year
- HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- POCT experience
- IBMS Certificate of Expert Practice in POCT
- Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
- Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role)
