Job Title: Payroll Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join our finance team at Engage Education. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate payment of employee and candidate salaries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process monthly payrolls accurately and punctually, ensuring strict adherence to all deadlines for internal employees in the UK, Canada, Ireland, and South Africa.
  • Process bonuses and commissions, prepare and facilitate BACS payments, and reconcile key nominal ledger payroll accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Manage payroll deductions, including pensions, court orders, and salary sacrifice, and distribute payslips to employees.
  • Calculate benefits, prepare P11Ds & PSAs, and submit them to HMRC as required.
  • Administer statutory payments, including SSP, SMP, SAP, and SPP, and handle pay queries from employees and candidates.
  • Liaise with HMRC to address any PAYE-related queries promptly and effectively.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing candidate/client communications via phone, email, or web chat regarding payroll inquiries and issues.
Requirements:
  • 2 years minimum of UK payroll experience is essential.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end payroll, including UK legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong telephone manner.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Strong maths/numeracy skills with an attention to details.
  • A good understanding of pension legislation.
  • Experience with payroll software and Xero is desirable.
