Head Gardener

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Gardener to lead our team of staff and volunteers in delivering an outstanding garden experience at Belton Estate.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a vision for the gardens, working closely with the property leadership team to integrate the gardens into the overall estate experience.
• Manage a team of four full-time staff and a growing community of volunteers, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality garden maintenance and presentation.
• Work closely with the visitor experience team to champion the cause of horticulture and engage visitors with the beauty and nature of the garden.
• Ensure inclusive leadership and work with the team to make changes that improve access to the garden.
• Manage operational risk and compliance requirements relevant to horticulture, ensuring the garden is safe and compliant with regulations.

Requirements

• Proven experience of managing a diverse garden throughout the seasons.
• Excellent knowledge of plants and plant care.
• Enthusiasm for horticulture, dedication to high-quality presentation, and a creative flair for gardening.
• Ability to manage and motivate a team, setting high standards for yourself and those around you.
• Experience with managing operational risk and compliance requirements relevant to horticulture.
• Commitment to working as part of a wider team to build a culture of inclusion.
• Managing resources, budgets, and work plans to ensure quality delivery.
• A higher level of horticultural experience supported by appropriate qualifications to RHS level 3 or above (or equivalent vocational experience).
