The Office of The Government Chemist resolves technical disputes between businesses and enforcement authorities mainly in the food and feed sector, provides expert advice for the development of legislation, standards and policy, and conducts measurement research to ensure evidence-based deployment across government, industry, academia and other organisations.

This role supports undertaking of chemical testing studies and method development and validation within the Office of The Government Chemist. Responsibilities include ensuring delivery of contracted work to the required quality and customer expectation, acting as a point of reference for advice training and mentorship to analytical chemists, and undertaking laboratory analysis of samples to support all work streams.

We are seeking an experienced chemist with a strong background in HPLC and working within an ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory environment. A chemistry degree or equivalent experience is essential, along with practical experience in data review and recommendation of suitable courses of action where results do not meet required specifications.

The estimated salary for this position is £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience.
