Primate Conservation Manager

**Job Summary:**
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Primate Conservation Manager to join our team at Twycross Zoo. As a key member of our animal management department, you will be responsible for the overall wellbeing and presentation of our primate species, including our great apes.

**The Role:**
This exciting opportunity will see you working closely with our senior curators and animal teams to develop and implement strategies for improving animal care and management practices. You will also be responsible for leading and managing a large team, ensuring they feel empowered to deliver outstanding results.
**Responsibilities:**
- Lead and manage a large team of animal professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure excellent animal care and management practices.
- Develop and implement strategies for improving animal welfare and management practices, in line with best practice and zoo licensing requirements.
- Work closely with our veterinary team to ensure the health and well-being of our animals, including preventative medicine programs and reactive care.
- Assume duty animal manager responsibilities on a rota basis, taking the lead role in animal emergencies.
- Represent the zoo on professional and scientific bodies, promoting our profile and reputation as a leading centre of animal management, research, conservation, and education.
**Requirements:**
- A degree in an animal or conservation-related subject, or equivalent experience.
- Extensive knowledge of modern practices for keeping a wide taxonomic range of primates in zoos, including great apes.
- Up-to-date knowledge of best practice for species management and a strong motivation to deliver high standards.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a diverse team, with a flexible and calm working style.
- High-level knowledge of breeding program management and the wider role of modern zoos in species and habitat conservation.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work and produce high-quality results in a timely manner.
**Salary and Benefits:**
We offer a competitive salary of £38,000 per annum, plus 31 days annual leave, a staff membership card, complimentary Twycross Zoo ticket allowance, and other benefits.
