The Francis Crick Institute is a world-leading biomedical research centre. We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Sample Management Specialist to join our Human Biology Facility team.

Salary: £28,000 - £35,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Laboratory Sample Management Specialist to join our team in the Human Biology Facility. As a key member of the Human Sample Management Team, you will be responsible for receiving, processing and logging human-derived samples, as well as carrying out assays. This role requires excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within regulatory frameworks.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Receiving, tracking, processing, aliquoting and assaying samples according to study and project requirements;
  • Becoming proficient in various Laboratory Information Management software systems, including FreezerPro, FlexyLIMS and Serology LIMS;
  • Understanding and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments, and being competent in all areas;
  • Becoming familiar and compliant with CL2 practices, HTA, GCP, Clinical Research Delivery and other regulatory requirements as needed;
  • Supporting the development of new methods and standards;
  • Maintaining a clean working environment and ensuring adequate supplies of stock are available;
  • Reporting any adverse issues as they arise;

This is a varied and challenging role that requires strong attention to detail, effective time management and excellent interpersonal skills. You will be working as part of a dynamic team, contributing to the success of our research programs and advancing our understanding of human biology.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs (including Maths and/or Science), or equivalent qualifications;
  • Experience of working within regulatory and policy frameworks;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team;
  • Good observational and attention to detail skills, with a proven track record of accurate record-keeping;
  • Ability and knowledge to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external colleagues;
