About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Waste and Decommissioning Consultant to join our team at AtkinsRéalis. As a key member of our Reactor Operations and Decommissioning team, you will play a critical role in the safe dismantling and disposal of ageing nuclear reactors and management of the UK's significant inventory of nuclear legacy wastes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective radioactive waste management strategies, working closely with clients to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to overcome complex challenges in radioactive waste management and decommissioning, leveraging knowledge of the radioactive waste management lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement innovative solutions for decommissioning and waste management, incorporating radiological dose modelling, radionuclide characterisation, automation, robotics, and other nuclear waste treatment technologies.
  • Contribute to business development by providing technical expertise and supporting the production of bids and proposals.
  • Engage with stakeholders to deliver complex projects, sharing knowledge and building networks to drive project success.
  • Maintain a customer-focused approach, developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and colleagues.

Requirements

  • Relevant degree in science (chemistry/physics/environmental sciences) or engineering (chemical/mechanical/process) or significant relevant technical experience.
  • Proven experience working in a related field, with a strong understanding of nuclear/radiation principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to travel to client sites, as required.
  • Ability to meet the requirements for security clearance in the UK.
