We are seeking an experienced Actuarial Manager to lead our Professional and Financial Underwriting Risks team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership to the team, managing resources, prioritizing work, and reviewing key deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership to the team, setting goals, managing resources, prioritizing work, and reviewing key deliverables.
  2. Maintain strong relations with the underwriting teams within PFR and Europe, providing challenge and support in pricing and reserving activities.
  3. Own various core processes to produce deliverables for external purposes.
  4. Provide support to the wider Markel International Actuarial team.

Requirements:

  1. Be able to manage and engage senior stakeholders and create effective relationships with stakeholders.
  2. Effectively manage a team and prioritize your and the team's workloads.
  3. Be proficient in a wider variety of actuarial disciplines relating to both pricing and reserving fields.
  4. Have experience of engaging with senior underwriters in delivering results, running technical projects to produce analyses for portfolio management and presenting at formal meetings with senior management.
  5. Have experience in the actuarial elements of business planning and parameterization of underwriting risk, including interacting with other departments including Finance, Underwriting, Capital etc.
  6. Be present in the London office at least two days a week, and able to visit our European offices up to quarterly.
