About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Motivated Support Worker to join our team at HMP Exeter. As a key member of our staff, you will play a crucial role in supporting participants in a correctional setting, helping them stay engaged throughout their sentence.

As a Custody Support Worker, your primary responsibility will be to provide motivational support and guidance to our participants, facilitating their successful reintegration into society. This involves delivering both group work and one-on-one interventions to help individuals overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.

Our ideal candidate will have experience working within the criminal justice sector, preferably in probation or social care. A strong understanding of participant needs, along with excellent communication skills, is essential for building trust and fostering positive relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Closely collaborate with volunteer peer mentors and/or mentors to effectively manage caseloads and connect participants with relevant resources.
  • Contribute to a learning environment that enables colleagues to develop their skills and experience, promoting best practice sharing activities.
  • E nsure effective case management and risk coordination, focusing on safeguarding adults and children, and notifying the Probation Service of any concerns regarding individual risk changes.
  • Maintain accurate records and adhere to systems, policies, and procedures to support risk management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • IAG Level 3 - desirable
  • Experience managing a caseload of participants - desirable
  • Knowledge of inputting and retrieving electronic data and maintaining computer-based information systems in an accurate and timely manner
  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to motivate and sustain engagement of individuals
